Simple ways to experience God’s peace amid life’s distractions

Life is full of distractions, and as an 80-year-old retired business graphics professional, grandparent, and lover of new technology, I get it. Since 1971, I’ve sought to stay aware of God’s presence each day. It’s not easy, but every effort brings joy and peace—and each small victory is worth celebrating. Here’s how I stay focused on God, even when life pulls my attention in every direction.

Finding Joy in the Desire to Seek Him

The desire to seek God is a victory in itself. Whenever I pause and bring my thoughts back to Him, I think of Romans 8:33-34 (NLT): “Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.” I don’t have to be perfect; God is pleased by my desire to connect with Him, and each small step counts.

Celebrating Small Victories Over Distractions

Our world overflows with distractions—just scrolling through my phone can pull me away. Yet, every time I refocus on God, it’s a win. Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT) says, “So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.” Knowing He understands my struggle brings comfort. Each time I turn my mind back to Him, it’s a victory.

Seeing Ourselves as God Sees Us

One freeing lesson I’ve learned is to see myself as God sees me. Rather than feeling defeated, I remember His joy in every effort to connect with Him. Psalm 139:1-3 (NLT) reminds me: “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me…You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.” God sees my efforts, struggles, and heart’s desires—and loves me the same.

Building Confidence in Prayer

This journey has deepened my confidence in approaching God with my weaknesses. Now I pray boldly, trusting that “we may receive mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:16, NLT). God’s grace is my anchor, always there to meet me.

Summary:If you’re striving to stay connected to God amid life’s noise, remember that every small victory matters. God delights in your efforts, no matter how small. Hold firmly to this truth, and approach Him with confidence, for His grace meets us where we are.

Filling My Cup with Joy, Resilience, and Purpose

Filling My Cup with Joy, Resilience, and Purpose

Filling My Cup with Joy, Resilience, and Purpose

How gratitude and positivity prepare us for life’s bumps and blessings.

Life gives us the cup; we choose what to pour into it. I learned this lesson one day when, like so many, I was “bumped”—in my case, a sudden change that left me rattled. In that moment, what spilled over revealed what I’d been carrying inside. And wow, did it need a refill! Today, I’m grateful for that bump because it led me to an intentional journey of filling my life with joy, gratitude, and resilience. This small analogy has become one of the most transformative lessons in my life. Join me as I share how the contents of my cup shifted and the strategies that helped me, so they might help you too.

Focus on What You Fill Your Cup With

I love the analogy of the cup because it’s so simple. When we’re “shaken,” our first reaction can tell us a lot. I used to carry stress, a hint of bitterness, and a sprinkle of fear in my cup. But I learned quickly that whatever is inside spills over, whether it’s helpful or not.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 4:23 (NLT), “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” If we want to be people of grace and peace, we must fill our hearts with those qualities. So I started intentionally adding positivity to my daily life, making small but impactful changes that altered my whole outlook.

Filling Up with Gratitude and Joy

Gratitude was my game-changer. Each morning, I spend a few moments thinking about three things I’m thankful for. This habit reshapes my day, giving me a fresh perspective before I even face the world. When life does its inevitable shake-up, I have reserves of joy and peace to draw on. Psalm 118:24 (NLT) says, “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Living from a place of gratitude is powerful; it fills our lives with grace that can’t help but spill over.

Add Positivity Through Words and Actions

Every word we speak, even to ourselves, adds to the contents of our cup. I began replacing phrases like “I have to” with “I get to,” a subtle shift that fills my day with more positivity. Alongside words, small acts of kindness toward others help refill my cup with a sense of purpose. I began sharing affirmations with family and friends, reminding them (and myself) of their unique gifts.

Strengthening Resilience for When the Cup is Shaken

Life’s “bumps” are inevitable, so I worked on building resilience. Through prayer and reflection, I focused on embracing challenges as growth opportunities. When I stumble, I remember Romans 5:3-4 (NLT): “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character…” Now, instead of reacting with frustration, I try to respond with curiosity, seeing the lesson life might be teaching me.

Summary: When life shakes us, what spills out reflects what we’ve been filling ourselves with. With gratitude, positivity, and resilience, I’ve transformed my cup’s contents—and how I experience each day. Wherever you are, I encourage you to take a look at your cup and intentionally fill it with what you want to share with the world.

Finding Peace and Purpose through Holy Spirit Guiding My Every Step

Finding Peace and Purpose through Holy Spirit Guiding My Every Step

How trusting the Holy Spirit can fill your life with peace, strength, and clarity.

Have you ever wondered how to find peace that really calms your soul? For me, it all began when I learned to tune into the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit. I’ve experienced His guidance from the first moments of my day to those small decisions throughout. Each nudge and whisper brings peace that surpasses understanding, and I’m learning every day how to walk in step with Him, facing each day with a heart full of gratitude.

Beginning My Day in Peace

The Holy Spirit’s guidance starts for me the moment I wake up. I make it a point to spend those first precious moments in quiet prayer, asking Him to lead me through whatever the day brings. Philippians 4:7 (NLT) says, “His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” That’s exactly what I feel as I breathe deeply, listening and letting go of my worries.

I’ll admit, I haven’t always been good at listening. I used to rush through my mornings, not really considering how a few moments with Him could completely transform my day. Now, these quiet moments are essential—they set the tone for everything that follows.

Learning to Stand Firm

Walking through life in step with the Spirit isn’t always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding. One lesson I keep coming back to is learning not just to walk but to stand firm in my faith. Ephesians 6:13 (NLT) reminds us, “After the battle, you will still be standing firm.” There’s so much power in that promise. It’s a reminder that, with the Holy Spirit’s help, I can stand strong in a world that often pulls me in every direction.

Each day, I ask Him to teach me how to stand firm, not just in the big decisions but in every interaction and thought. His gentle strength empowers me to live out my faith confidently, letting go of doubts and fears.

Embracing Gratitude and Letting Go of Worry

One of the greatest blessings of walking with the Holy Spirit is the peace He brings that drives away fear. When I find myself getting overwhelmed or anxious, I remember 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT): “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” Those words echo in my heart, reminding me to lean on His strength.

Gratitude has become my constant companion. Each day, I look back and thank God for the wisdom and peace He gives me. I can’t imagine facing life’s challenges without that comfort and strength.

Closing Thoughts

I’m learning to take my “rightful place in this world,” as I lean on the Holy Spirit for guidance. Each day is a new opportunity to grow, stand firm, and live with joy and gratitude. His peace fills my heart, and I’m grateful for every moment.

Living to Please God: Finding Unity Through Humility and Acceptance

Living to Please God: Finding Unity Through Humility and Acceptance

Discover the transformative power of humility, acceptance, and unity in building a life that pleases God.

Living to Please God: My Journey to Joyful Unity

I’ll never forget the moment I realized that pleasing God wasn’t about trying to be perfect or always getting it right. It was about living in unity with others, finding joy in putting others first, and embracing humility—values that lead to a life that honors God.

Over the years, I’ve learned that unity isn’t about everyone being the same. It’s about rallying around a common purpose and our shared faith in Jesus. True unity is grounded in humility and acceptance, and these qualities reflect Christ’s heart, filling us with a peace and joy that only God can provide. Romans 15:13 captures this beautifully: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him.” Here’s a bit of my journey to discovering these life-changing truths.

Humility: Putting Others First

Early on, I thought unity was about being right, but I came to realize it’s about putting others first. Pride can creep in when we rely on knowledge alone, but as I’ve learned, “knowledge puffs up, while love builds up.” In our walk with Christ, it’s humility that keeps us close to Him and to each other. The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:3, “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”

It’s not always easy to practice, but when I make that shift, I feel closer to Jesus, whose life was a perfect example of putting others first. By putting others before myself, I’ve experienced a joy I never knew was possible.

Acceptance: Creating a Culture of Belonging

In a world that’s often divided, I’m grateful to be part of a church family that welcomes everyone—regardless of background, lifestyle, or political beliefs. Romans 15:7 reminds us, “Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.” True acceptance doesn’t mean endorsing every decision someone makes, but it means loving them as Christ does. Jesus tore down walls and invited everyone to belong.

When we worship together, it’s like a harmony of voices, beautifully diverse yet united in purpose. This unity transcends color, culture, and language, reminding me that wherever I go, I’m part of a family in Christ.

Ambition in Christ: Going All In

One of my favorite quotes is from missionary William Carey: “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.” It’s inspired me to live with purpose, trusting that God has extraordinary plans for me as long as I’m willing to step out in faith. Romans 15:30 also speaks to this ambition, calling us to “join in my struggle by praying to God for me.”

I don’t want to just wait around, hoping for good things to happen. I want to live with a bold faith, expecting and pursuing great things that honor Him. That’s the ambition I hope to inspire in others, too!

In Summary

Living to please God is an ongoing journey—a journey toward humility, acceptance, and unity. As I continue to grow in faith, I’m more convinced than ever that unity is what God desires for us. It’s a unity rooted in patience, encouragement, and love. And as we join together, we bring glory to God, the ultimate source of joy and peace.

Embracing New Beginnings: How I Found Fulfillment in Today’s Evolving Digital Landscape

Embracing New Beginnings: How I Found Fulfillment in Today’s Evolving Digital Landscape

Discover how passion, persistence, and lifelong learning helped me navigate the changing world of technology.

I’ve always believed that life is about constant growth and reinvention. As someone who built a career in business graphics and marketing, I thrived on creativity and technology for decades. But, as retirement approached, I was faced with an unexpected dilemma: how would I stay engaged, fulfilled, and connected to the fast-paced world I once thrived in?

What I discovered was both humbling and exhilarating—a journey filled with new opportunities in digital marketing, AI content creation, and a rediscovered passion for storytelling. Here’s how embracing technology once again gave me a fresh start in my golden years, proving that it’s never too late to chart a new course.

Staying Open to New Ideas

At 80, you might think I’d slow down, but that’s not in my nature. I’ve always held traditional values close, but I’ve also loved the thrill of learning new things. The rapid advancement of AI and content marketing wasn’t something to be feared—it was something I could harness. I realized that my deep-rooted knowledge of customer stories and messaging could merge seamlessly with these tools. The key was staying open, and it started with a simple decision: not to shy away from the future.

By diving into AI, I found that automation wasn’t replacing creativity; it was enhancing it. I used my years of marketing experience and my passion for storytelling to breathe life into AI-generated content, making sure it resonated on a personal level.

Creating Meaningful Content in a Fast-Paced World

Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: people want stories they can relate to. AI can spit out a thousand variations of content, but without that human touch, it falls flat. So, I focused on refining my skill set to bring a unique voice to the digital landscape.

I honed prompt development and incorporated AI into my workflow to increase productivity while ensuring authenticity in the message. Whether it was for blog posts or crafting customer stories, I kept my mantra clear—communication is about connection, not just clicks.

Leaning on Faith and Family for Strength

Faith has always been my cornerstone, and Habakkuk 2:2—“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it”—guided me through this journey of reinvention. Staying grounded in my Christian values reminded me that success wasn’t just about staying ahead of the curve, but staying true to myself and my vision.

My family has also been a vital part of my new chapter. With four grown children and three wonderful grandchildren, I’m lucky to have their unwavering support. They inspire me to keep pushing the boundaries, and I want to leave behind a legacy that shows them you can always reinvent yourself, no matter your age.

Summary:At 80, my journey into the digital landscape has been rewarding, reminding me that life is filled with opportunities, even when you least expect it. By embracing new technologies, trusting in my faith, and cherishing family, I’ve rediscovered the joy of creativity in an evolving world.
