Navigating Life’s Storms: Lessons from Noah’s Journey for Modern Success

A personal reflection on faith, perseverance, and divine guidance in pursuing our life’s purpose and professional calling.

Have you ever felt like you’re building something massive while everyone around you questions your sanity? That’s exactly where I found myself last year when I embarked on a career-changing project that tested every ounce of my faith and determination. Noah’s story has become my go-to inspiration, and today, I want to share how this ancient tale offers surprising insights for our modern professional journeys.

The Blueprint of Purpose

Just as Noah received specific instructions for building the ark (450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet tall), I’ve learned that success requires detailed planning and precise execution. In my consulting practice, I’ve seen how this level of attention to detail makes the difference between good and exceptional outcomes.

The Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 16:3 (NLT): “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” This truth has become my cornerstone for decision-making.

Perseverance Through the Unknown

Noah’s 370-day journey mirrors the entrepreneurial path many of us walk. The confined spaces, constant responsibilities, and complex dynamics he managed aren’t so different from our modern challenges. During my own professional transitions, I’ve often reflected on Noah’s persistence during those long months when the waters wouldn’t recede.

The Power of Faithful Execution

What strikes me most about Noah’s story is that simple yet profound statement: “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” In today’s fast-paced world, this level of obedience and attention to detail is rare. Yet, it’s exactly what sets exceptional leaders apart.

Philippians 1:6 (NLT) has been my anchor: “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished.”

Embracing the Silence

Perhaps the most relevant lesson from Noah’s journey is learning to trust during periods of divine silence. In our careers, we often face seasons where clarity seems distant. I’ve learned that these moments aren’t setbacks but opportunities for growth and deeper faith.

Building Your Modern Ark

Whether you’re launching a business, changing careers, or seeking your next opportunity, Noah’s story offers timeless principles for success:

  1. Follow your divine blueprint with precision
  2. Prepare for both short-term challenges and long-term sustainability
  3. Stay faithful to your mission, especially when others don’t understand
  4. Build with purpose and excellence
  5. Trust the process, even in silence

Moving Forward with Purpose

Like Noah, we’re all building something significant. Your “ark” might be a business, a career, or a ministry. Whatever it is, build it with the same dedication and attention to detail that Noah demonstrated.

Remember, success isn’t just about the destination; it’s about who we become in the process.

Keeping Your Eyes on Jesus: Finding Peace in Life’s Storms

In the midst of life’s turbulent waters, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the crashing waves of daily challenges. Like Peter walking on water, we often find ourselves sinking when we shift our focus from Jesus to the storms surrounding us. Yet, this journey from fear to faith is one that transforms not just our perspective, but our entire lives.

The Storm-Tossed Reality

We all face moments when life’s circumstances threaten to overwhelm us. Bills pile up, relationships strain, health concerns emerge, and professional challenges loom large. In these moments, Scripture reminds us of a profound truth found in Philippians 4:6-7: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.”

The Power of Present Focus

Jesus directly addresses our tendency to worry in Matthew 6:33-34: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

This isn’t just good advice; it’s a life-changing perspective shift. When we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, we tap into a source of strength beyond our human capabilities. As 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

Practical Steps for Maintaining Focus

  1. Start each day in God’s presence through prayer and Scripture reading
  2. Practice gratitude even in challenging circumstances
  3. Surround yourself with faith-filled community members
  4. Keep a journal of God’s faithfulness

Finding Peace in the Storm

The beautiful promise of Isaiah 26:3 assures us: “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!” This peace isn’t dependent on our circumstances but on our focus. When we feel overwhelmed, Psalm 46:10 gently reminds us to “Be still, and know that I am God!”

In those moments when the valley seems darkest, we can hold onto the truth of Psalm 23:4: “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.” This intimate presence of God provides comfort and strength when we need it most.

The Transformation Journey

Keeping our eyes on Jesus doesn’t mean our problems magically disappear. Instead, it means we face them with a different perspective and a greater strength. Romans 8:28 reminds us that “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God.” This promise helps us trust in God’s bigger picture, even when we can’t see it clearly ourselves.

Conclusion

Life’s storms will come and go, but God’s presence remains constant. When we feel overwhelmed, let’s remember to shift our gaze from the waves to the Wave-walker. As we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, we’ll find that perfect peace that surpasses all understanding, strengthening us for whatever challenges lie ahead.

In the words of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This promise remains true regardless of what storms we face today.

Remember, the key isn’t the absence of storms but the presence of the Storm-calmer. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and watch as He transforms your fears into stepping stones of faith.

From Highways to AI: My Journey of Faith in the Digital Revolution

A personal reflection on how embracing technological change mirrors our walk of faith, transforming challenges into divine opportunities for growth and ministry.

“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.'” – Habakkuk 2:2 (NLT)

The Digital Highway Before Us

Recently, I found myself captivated by Jensen Huang’s interview comparing AI to the interstate highway system. As a Christian technology enthusiast, this analogy resonated deeply with my spirit. Just as those highways transformed America’s landscape, AI is carving new pathways in our digital world. But what truly excites me isn’t just the technological advancement—it’s the divine parallel I see in this transformation.

Think about it: when the interstate system was built, it wasn’t just about faster roads. It sparked a complete reimagining of American life. Communities grew, businesses flourished, and new possibilities emerged. Similarly, AI isn’t just about automating tasks—it’s about opening doors we never knew existed.

Divine Innovation: Seeing Through Heaven’s Eyes

“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?” – Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)

In my prayer time, I’ve been reflecting on how God often works through innovation to advance His kingdom. Those early visionaries who imagined an interconnected highway system remind me of biblical characters like Joseph, who prepared for future challenges with divine foresight. Today, we’re called to exercise similar vision with AI—not seeing it as a threat, but as a God-given tool for kingdom advancement.

The elimination of mundane tasks through AI isn’t just about efficiency—it’s about stewardship. When we’re freed from repetitive work, we can invest more time in relationship-building, creative problem-solving, and ministry opportunities that truly require the human touch.

From Fear to Faith: Embracing the Change

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

I’ll be honest—I initially approached AI with trepidation. Questions about job displacement and ethical implications weighed heavily on my mind. But through prayer and reflection, I’ve come to see that fear is not from God. Just as the interstate system didn’t eliminate jobs but transformed them, AI is reshaping how we work while creating new opportunities for human creativity and connection.

In my own work, I’ve witnessed how AI tools can enhance rather than replace human capability. They’re like the modern equivalent of the printing press—a revolutionary technology that ultimately served to spread God’s Word more effectively.

A Heart of Gratitude: The Technology Stewardship

Living in this era fills me with profound gratitude. We have unprecedented tools at our disposal to serve others and share the Gospel. Like the highways that connected distant communities, AI can bridge cultural and linguistic gaps, making the Great Commission more achievable than ever.

I’m particularly excited about how AI can help us:

  • Translate biblical content into numerous languages instantly
  • Create personalized discipleship resources
  • Reach unreached people groups through innovative methods
  • Enhance church administration and community engagement
  • Develop more effective teaching and learning tools

Summary: The Road Ahead

As we navigate this AI revolution, let’s approach it with faith, wisdom, and holy excitement. The same God who guided His people through previous technological and social transformations remains sovereign over this new digital frontier. Let’s be like the men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what to do (1 Chronicles 12:32).

My Personal Journey in God’s Present Moment

My life with God has become an exciting adventure.

I don’t live in past regrets or worry about the future. Instead, I live in the present moment, seeking His knowledge and wisdom for every step I take. Each day unfolds as a wonderful journey of discovery.

“This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24 (NLT)

I’ve learned that following God’s will requires me to know Him intimately. My early morning routine of prayer and Bible study is absolutely essential. Without this one-on-one relationship with my Creator, I can’t fully experience His presence in the little moments throughout my day.

“Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.” – 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NLT)

AI and Divine Wisdom: Expanding God’s Gifts Through Technology

Using AI as a Tool—Not a Replacement—for Wisdom, Creativity, and Productivity

If you had told me years ago that I’d be using artificial intelligence in my 80s, I would have laughed. But here I am, a retired business graphics professional, exploring AI with the same curiosity I once had for competitive sailing. It’s been an unexpected adventure—one that has deepened my appreciation for how God equips us with tools to expand the gifts He has already given.

At first, I was skeptical. Could AI technology align with the wisdom God provides? Would it be a distraction from faith or a tool to strengthen it? As I dug deeper, I realized that AI isn’t here to replace divine wisdom—it’s simply a tool that helps refine, organize, and expand the insights God already gives us.

AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement

I see AI, like ChatGPT, as a digital assistant—one that helps refine and expand the wisdom God provides. But it’s crucial to remember: AI doesn’t replace God’s wisdom; it enhances how we apply it. Think of it like this:

  • God provides the vision – AI helps develop it.
  • God gives the wisdom – AI helps organize and refine it.
  • God inspires creativity – AI helps bring it to life.

It reminds me ofProverbs 2:6 (NLT):“For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” AI may generate ideas, but true wisdom always comes from God.

Following God’s Blueprint

Back when I was designing print media and branding, I’d often receive projects with minimal direction—just a handful of text and a vague idea. I’d pause, take a deep breath, and silently pray,Lord, you know how this should turn out. Without fail, He would guide me. A headline would come to mind. The right images would appear. Adjustments would flow naturally, and the final product always amazed my clients.

Looking back, I see that God’s wisdom wasn’t just about creativity—it was about problem-solving, clarity, and communication. Now, I find those same principles at play with AI.

Enhancing Stewardship and Productivity

Sailing taught me the importance of preparation—you don’t just head out to sea without a plan. The same applies to how we use our time and resources. AI has helped me become a better steward, streamlining research, automating repetitive tasks, and freeing up more time for what matters most: relationships, storytelling, and sharing God’s truth.

Paul reminds us inColossians 3:23 (NLT):“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” When we use technology wisely, we can be more productive and purposeful in our calling.

Spreading the Gospel in New Ways

Just as the printing press once made the Bible accessible to the masses, AI-powered tools are now helping translate scripture into countless languages, reaching people in remote parts of the world. I’ve personally used AI to refine my writing, brainstorm creative ideas, and craft messages of encouragement. It’s an incredible reminder that God can use any tool for His glory.

Writing the Vision and Trusting God’s Plan

Technology may evolve, but God’s truth never changes. When we approach AI with discernment and gratitude, we can use it to expand our knowledge, enhance creativity, and ultimately glorify Him.

My life scripture,Habakkuk 2:2 (NLT), says:“Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.” AI is simply another tool that helps us “write the vision” and share God’s wisdom in ways that resonate with others.

Final Thoughts

I never expected to embrace AI at this stage of my life, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and share God’s wisdom in new ways. Faith is a lifelong journey of discovery, and I’m excited to see how technology can help us navigate it with purpose.

Have you ever used AI to expand on the wisdom God has given you?

Let’s start a conversation!

The Gratitude Effect: How Thankfulness Transformed My Life

The Gratitude Effect: How Thankfulness Transformed My Life

The Gratitude Effect: How Thankfulness Transformed My Life

Learn how choosing thankfulness can bring peace, joy, and hope—even in tough times.

Gratitude is a powerful practice that has changed the way I face challenges and celebrate life’s blessings. Over the years, I’ve learned that thankfulness doesn’t just brighten the good times—it takes the sting out of adversity. Let me share how this simple shift in perspective transformed my outlook and deepened my faith.

A New Way to See Life

Growing up in Hawaii, I often found joy in the little things: the sound of waves crashing, the thrill of sailing, and the beauty of sunsets. But as life became more complex, I sometimes let my focus drift to what was missing or going wrong.

One day, I came across1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” Those words stopped me in my tracks. Could I really give thanks in every situation—even the hard ones?

I decided to try. Each morning, I began listing things I was grateful for. Some days it was simple, like,“Thank You for the sunrise.” Other days, it took effort, like,“Thank You for giving me strength in this trial.”

Thankfulness in the Midst of Storms

Life isn’t always smooth sailing, but thankfulness has been my anchor. I’ve faced job losses, family challenges, and moments of doubt, but gratitude has helped me see God’s hand in everything.

One of the hardest seasons of my life taught me this lesson vividly. A professional setback left me feeling stuck and questioning my purpose. Instead of focusing on what I’d lost, I chose to thank God for the skills I’d developed and the people I’d met.

This choice shifted my perspective. New opportunities emerged, and I realized God was leading me into something better. It reminded me ofPsalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”

Thankfulness didn’t erase the adversity, but it took the sting out of it, turning my focus toward hope and faith.

The Power of Gratitude to Heal and Transform

When gratitude becomes a habit, it doesn’t just change your outlook—it changes your heart. It helps you see from God’s perspective, making even the hardest moments more bearable.

Romans 15:13 says, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Gratitude invites this joy and peace into our lives. It doesn’t mean ignoring pain, but it reminds us that God is in control and always working for our good.

Gratitude is Your Superpower

Thankfulness isn’t just a practice; it’s a lifeline. Start small—write down one thing you’re grateful for today. Trust me, it can transform your outlook and fill your life with unexpected blessings.
