Finding peace, joy, and hope through faith, life’s challenges, and the grace of God’s Spirit.
Life has a way of throwing unexpected winds our way—each gust either knocks us off course or strengthens our resolve. Looking back on my journey, I see how these winds shaped my character, teaching me perseverance, adaptability, and faith. Today, I’m 80 years old and deeply grateful for every twist and turn because they’ve all drawn me closer to God. As I reflect on what’s been most meaningful, I’m reminded of the way God fills us with hope and peace, even in the most turbulent seasons.
Romans 15:13 encourages me daily: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13, NLT).
Setting the Sail with Faith
Growing up in Hawaii, I fell in love with sailing. Navigating the ocean taught me to trust in the unseen, adjust my course, and persevere through every swell. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but the more I sailed, the more I learned. Later, these principles became the bedrock of my life and career. Much like adjusting sails to catch the wind, I found that faith means surrendering control, trusting God to guide us through calm and storm. Faith isn’t passive; it’s an active, intentional choice to believe in the One who holds it all together.
Choosing Joy and Gratitude in Every Season
One lesson that took me a while to learn was that gratitude isn’t just a feeling—it’s a practice. Life can bring us seasons of joy, and sometimes seasons of heartbreak. But through every trial, choosing gratitude has been a game-changer.
Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.”
Even in moments of uncertainty, I’ve seen God provide peace that fills my heart, reminding me that no wave is too big for Him.
Overflowing Hope: A Gift from the Spirit
In my journey of faith, I’ve come to see hope as an anchor that holds us firm. In times when I felt the weight of life’s storms—whether navigating career decisions or family challenges—God’s hope filled me, encouraging me to keep going. By the power of the Holy Spirit, our hope overflows, transforming every situation. I see each day as an opportunity to let that hope shine brightly, and I want others to know that they, too, can be filled to overflowing.
Summary:Life’s journey, like the ocean, comes with its highs and lows. Yet through faith, gratitude, and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can experience an abundance of joy, peace, and hope that sustains us. Wherever you are today, may you feel encouraged to trust in God’s plan, to find joy in the present, and to let hope guide your steps.
